CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA— In celebration of the Population and Development (POPDEV) Week, the Commission on Population Region III is set to hold the 2015 Regional POPDEV Summit on November 19 to 20, 2015 at Subic Bay Travelers Hotel, Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
According to POPCOM Region III Director Eleanor M. Cura, the event, themed “Population and Development: Linking Everyone Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” shall serve as a forum to discuss deeper the inter-relationships between population and development in the local, regional and national levels.
Expected to be present during the activities of the 2-day event are POPCOM Deputy Executive Director Rosalinda D. Marcelino, Senator Cynthia Villar, Camarines Sur Third District Representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, local chief executives, local population officers and workers, partner government agencies from the region, media and other major stakeholders.
The 2-day summit includes activities such as a presentation-cum-discussion on POPDEV and the 2015 POPDEV week theme, POPCOM Region III accomplishments for 2015, a press conference, cultural presentations of all provinces in the region, as well as an exhibit of POPCOM Region III-produced materials on the Philippine Population Management Program.
The 2015 POPDEV Summit shall also present local best practices on the components of the PPMP, namely POPDEV, Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RP-FP), Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD), as well as Gender and Development (GAD).
POPCOM Region III shall also award the Most Outstanding Population program officer, worker and volunteer, PPMP Best Practices (POPDEV, RP-FP, AHYD, and GAD), and loyalty awards during the 2-day event.
The celebration of the Population and Development Week is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 76, S-1992 signed into law by then-President Fidel V. Ramos.
City of San Fernando, Pampanga – The Commission on Population Region III presents its official entry to the first ever National Adolescent Health and Youth Development Film Festival during an event with guests from partner regional government agencies, local government units, media, and other stakeholders held here on Oct. 27, 2015.
According to POPCOM Region III Director Eleanor M. Cura, the 2015 National AHYD Film Festival, expected to be participated by all regions in the country, is another strategy to strengthen the advocacy on youth, anchored in the objective of the AHYD program, to contribute to the improvement and promotion of the total well-being of young people.
Dir. Cura also mentioned that the film festival is another initiative of POPCOM to address prevalent youth concerns and issues in the community such as increasing incidences of early sexual encounters, teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and abuse, among others.
POPCOM Region III’s entry to the said event, Kanlungan, was produced by Grade 10 students of St. Mary’s College of Baliwag.
The short film, which also emerged as the winner during the 2015 Reel-Life Documentaries on Teenage Pregnancy, a competition launched by the Municipality of Baliwag, Bulacan, focuses on the story of Ligaya, a teenage girl who faces the consequences of engaging in early sexual encounters.
The said high school team shall receive a plaque of recognition and cash assistance from POPCOM Region III for being selected as the region’s entry to the national film festival.
In addition, the five-member team shall also be part of the delegation of Central Luzon to the 2015 National AHYD Film Festival to be held November 23-27 of this year.
ANGELES CITY— The Commission on Population Region III conferred the 2014 Regional Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award (RMSPDA) for the City category during the awarding ceremony-cum-Angeles City Teen Information Center re-launch held here on September 29, 2015.
POPCOM Region III Director Eleanor Cura mentioned in the said event that the local government of Angeles bested 13 other cities in the region on population and development-related achievements in Population and Development (POPDEV), Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RP-FP), as well as Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD).
Dir. Cura also mentioned that the existence of a teen center sealed the deal for Angeles City to be announced as the Regional RMSPDA winner for the city category in her presentation of the Philippine Population Management Program.
BUSTOS, BULACAN— The locality of Bustos, Bulacan received the Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award (RMSPDA) for the municipal category from the Commission on Population Region III in an awarding ceremony held here on August 10, 2015 witnessed by heads of local departments, programs, and offices.
POPCOM Region III Director Eleanor M. Cura, during her speech, introduced the award and mentioned how Bustos, Bulacan was able to win over all the municipalities in Central Luzon through its programs, projects, and activities under the Philippine Population Management Program particularly in population and development (POPDEV), responsible parenthood and family planning (RP-FP), as well as adolescent health and youth development (AHYD).
