CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA— The Commission on Population celebrated its 45th Anniversary on February 18, 2015 with the theme “POPCOM @ 45 and beyond: Working towards healthy, happy, and empowered families.”
Highlighting the continuing and dedicated efforts of POPCOM in improving the quality of lives of the people through the Philippine Population Management Program, POPCOM’s 45th anniversary celebration also included the launching of the 2014 Rafael M. Salas Population and Development Award.
In honor of Rafael M. Salas, the first Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund among other significant contributions to the country, the 2014 RMSPDA is given to local government units which continuously pursue the vision and ideals of Rafael M. Salas in achieving a better world for present and future generations through high quality programs for population and development (POPDEV). Specifically, the award aims to recognize the excellence and innovation in POPDEV programs of cities and municipalities.
The said recognition shall be awarded to winning local government units scheduled third quarter of this year. Other activities during the agency’s 45th anniversary celebration were a photo exhibit, an audio-visual presentation, a video livestreaming of events conducted by selected regional population offices, a Kalusugang Pangkalahatan Roadshow, and a medical mission on general health services.
