According to POPCOM Region III Director Eleanor M. Cura, the 2015 National AHYD Film Festival, expected to be participated by all regions in the country, is another strategy to strengthen the advocacy on youth, anchored in the objective of the AHYD program, to contribute to the improvement and promotion of the total well-being of young people.
Dir. Cura also mentioned that the film festival is another initiative of POPCOM to address prevalent youth concerns and issues in the community such as increasing incidences of early sexual encounters, teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and abuse, among others.
POPCOM Region III’s entry to the said event, Kanlungan, was produced by Grade 10 students of St. Mary’s College of Baliwag.
The short film, which also emerged as the winner during the 2015 Reel-Life Documentaries on Teenage Pregnancy, a competition launched by the Municipality of Baliwag, Bulacan, focuses on the story of Ligaya, a teenage girl who faces the consequences of engaging in early sexual encounters.
