Anchoredon the goal of Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP)in achieving a sustainable population level and in acquiring a better quality of life both within the family and the society, the Local Government Units of Region III together with POPCOM III has been taking on efforts in addressing various population issues and concerns getting hold on to the aim of building and nurturing a “Matatag, Maginhawa, at PlanadongPamilyang Pilipino.”
In a recent initiative, POPCOM III in cooperation with DILG RO IIIorganized an activity intended to further strengthen the coordination, collaboration and implementation of Philippine Population Management Program PPMP and the Responsible Parenthood Reproductive Health Law (RPRH) at the local level. The event which was also dubbed as Regional Dissemination Forum on Philippine Population Management Program and Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law among Local Chief Executives and Other Decision Makers was well attendedand actively participated in, voicing and sharing everyone's experiences at the grassroots level by the representatives coming from the provinces and cities of Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
During the event, two cities presented their currentprograms which on account highlycontributed to the population management in their respective communities. Meycauayan City Mayor Hon. Henry Villarica was represented by City Population Officer Mr. Arsenio C. Sangalang and San Jose City Mayor Hon. Mario O. Salvador together with his City Administrator Mr. Alexander Bautista presented their strategies along with the various programs they undertake in reaching out to the families and youth in their localities.
Throughout the presentation varied services and assortment of integrated activities were discussed and which were implemented by both cities resulting in increase in reach and impact on the PPMP and RPRH Law in their communities. Questions of adequacy as well as effectiveness and efficiency of outcomes wereraised and answered takingin consideration the interventions that did not work and the reasons behind them.The twolocalities were in close coordination with POPCOM in their conduct of activities and were capacitated with the knowledge and technical skills needed in their role out.
In her keynote message Regional Director Eleanor M. Cura reiterated and emphasized the role of LGU's and other agencies as implementers of services and interventions for population management concerns further citingthat it is the ordinary people and their families who willbenefit from the impact of these population interventions.POPCOM Executive Director Dr. Juan Antonio A. Perez III who was also present during the event further shed some light on the current population statistics based on the newly released National Demographic Health Survey 2017 (NDHS).
Both San Jose City and Meycauayan City received Certificates of Recognition for their efforts in presenting their Best Practices during the said forum last March 6, 2018.Attendees were all receptive to their presentations and are optimistic in adopting the strategies which are all geared towards “Empowering Filipino Families.”
